Time Out For Women

I just spent last night and all day today at Time Out for Women at the Phoenix Civic Plaza. I went with Aleia and her Aunts, Colleen and Michelle. We really had a good time. The talks and the music was spectacular.
Michael McLean was there and was very entertaining. He is so talented and has so much to give to others. If you haven't seen the "Forgotten Carols" it will be at Gammage this Dec. Tickets go on sell pretty soon. It is really good with some great music. I went up to him after his break and got his autograph for Aleia. Her cousin was there and took a picture of him with me. I told him that Aleia loved his music and work but she was shy. He waved to her and motioned for her to come over. She got to meet him and her cousin took a picture of them. She will send it to Aleia and maybe she will post it. He is a really nice man and was very caring.
Friday night Michael Wilcox spoke on "How Many Is One?" One can make a difference and when put with another one is even stronger. In the movie "The Wizard Of Oz," remember when the wicked witch is melting after Dorothy threw water on her. She said, 'Oh what a world, what a world, that ONE little girl could destroy all my wickedness!" One little act can make a difference and simple little acts can bring God's blessing.
Jason Deere performed with some really neat country style songs about Joseph Smith. One was very touching to me.
On Saturday Carolyn Rasmus spoke on "Simplify!" She has a book out on it. "The adversary will keep us busy with a multitude of trivial things so that we won't focus on the things that make the difference."
Jenny Jordan Frogley performed and is an excellent singer and musician.
Camille Fronk Olsen spoke on "Woman To Woman." It was mainly about sisters in the scriptures and how we could relate to them.
Merrilee Boyack Spoke on "Wifehood 101: Five Things You Need to Know. Ask yourself 1) Do your children stay in the main area of your home after 9:00 P.M.? Husband and Wife's need time together alone. 2) Do you go out with your husband at least three times a month alone? 3) Have you been away overnight at least once a year? 4) When was the last time you bought your husband a treat instead of your children? 5) When it is just the two of you talking is 50% of your talking about the children? I think there is a lot more in her book to learn from.
Dean Hughes told us about his summer playing Mr. Mom. Life is not a contest but we act like it is. The Lord cares about our Christlike qualities. The life we have left, we need to try to become more like Christ.
All in all this conference filled my cup and now I can make it a few more days, months, or until next year.
We need to hear good talks and music to left us and help us make it through each day. Life is tough and we will be tried. We need to become strong and have Faith in the Lord. Maybe next year all of us can go and be lifted a little higher.

Oh yeah, Women's Conference in Provo is the first part of May. Who wants to go? It sure was fun the last time we went. I'm game if any of you are!!!! If we're going we need to start thinking about it, especially for the hotel. Let me know.

Check out Linda's blog. She finally posted and there is a cute picture of her and Mike.

Longhurst Reunion 2007

Every Labor Day weekend we go up to Greens Peak with all of the Longhurst Clan. This year the weather was great!!!! The past few years it has been really rainy. But this year it was perfect. A little rain here and there and plenty of sunshine but cool temperatures. When we left there around noon today it was 64. It was 109 when we got home 4 hours later.
We left Friday around noon and got there around 4 or 5. We went to Greer for dinner with Connie and Homer. Connie's kids and Christopher and Bailey went to the St. John-Round Valley football game. Saturday we had a yummy breakfast of french toast, bacon and juice. We went on a ATV ride with almost everyone that day. We had Arctic Cats and 4 wheelers that we rode on. We went back in the forest and it was beautiful. We had ham and turkey sandwiches, chips, and a lot of snacks to eat. For dinner we had Navajo Taco's that was delicious!!! Eat, eat, eat....I'm full. That evening we sat by the fire and Alison led us in a guessing game. Everyone wrote on a paper something about them that was true and then we had to guess who it was. We learned a lot about each other that night. Sunday we went for a walk up to the top of a mountain by our camp. The altitude was pretty high. Alison, Sherrie, McKay, Shauna, and Lilly went down the other side and around. Eileen, Tory, Jason and I went back down the mountain back to camp. It was a fun day. Bailey's parents and sister came for the afternoon and evening. We had chicken salad sandwiches and chips for lunch and of course some more snacks. We played Cornhole and barbecued steak and chicken and had corn on the cob and salad and potatoes. Yum, Yum!!!! Full again! It was also Meagan's 22nd birthday. They made a cherry cobbler in the dutch oven for her. Then we sat by the fire and tried to guess songs by just one word. It was fun. Monday we had another yummy breakfast of egg and bacon burritos. Other families had different things for breakfast and lunch. Through out the days we rode the 4 wheelers and Artic Cats and played Cornhole and that golfball throw game (I don't know the name of it), some people read and took a little nap. I think we all had a great time this year. We are so lucky to have the family that we have. I'm thankful for my sisters and their families and of course my own family. We missed all the families that couldn't make it this year though. I really missed Heather and her family.
It has been a fun family tradition and I hope we can always get together and be close to each other. Pictures or video coming...

Just to cute!

Get me out of here...PLEASE!

Not Much Happening Here...

I haven't posted lately because there isn't much for me to say. I finally feel better, thank goodness. It took forever. I'm busy at work. I got to babysit Brody Saturday night while Christopher and Bailely went to a movie. Then I got to watch Faith and Jaylee yesterday while Ronnie and Aleia ran some errands and went out to dinner. I've missed my little grandchildren. I'm used to seeing them more often and it gets kind of lonely sometimes. I miss Heather and all of her family too. I've been talking a lot to her while they are figuring out the mess at the orphanage. Keep them and the girls and the other children in your prayers.
I went to dinner with some friend at work last Thursday for another sweet friend that used to work with us. Her husband has cancer and is not doing to well. We all love Julie and her husband is a great man. She is in my prayers daily as she and her family goes through this trial. We all need to enjoy each other and show love to one another because we just don't know what is in the future. Anyway, I'm trying to find some cute pictures to post so I'll work on that.

Wierd Background!

If you checked my blog or Sariah's we had something wierd going on. I changed the wallpaer and it is OK now. It has to do with where we got our backgrounds, I think.
Anyway, I've been sick with acute brochitis and sinusitus. I'm on medication and my cough is loosening up. Hopefully, It will get rid of this cough!!! It seems like I have one a little to often. I've been reading the "Prelude To Glory" series. I'm on the 3rd volume. It makes me appreciate those who fought for our freedom. It's all about the Revolutionary war. It has fictional characters but with true historical accounts. It's pretty good.

President James E. Faust

President James E. Faust Passes Away
08/10/2007 11:55 PM MDT
President James E. Faust, second counselor in the First Presidency of The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints, died at his home early this morning surrounded by his family.

President Faust, 87, had served in the First Presidency since 1995 and as a General Authority of the Church for 35 years. A Church statement today said that President Faust had died of “causes incident to age.”

President Faust was appointed second counselor in the First Presidency of The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints on 12 March 1995. The First Presidency is the highest presiding body in the government of the Church.

He had previously served four years as an Assistant to the Twelve (the Quorum of the Twelve Apostles is the second-highest presiding body) before being appointed a member of the presidency of the First Quorum of the Seventy (other senior leaders in the Church) on 1 October 1976.

His most recent assignments included vice chairman of the Church Board of Education; the board of trustees of Brigham Young University; the Welfare Services Executive Committee; and Deseret Management Corporation.

Bruce Olsen, managing director of Church Public Affairs, said this morning that President Faust’s “gentle manner and depth of knowledge, which was an important part of his ministry for nearly 35 years, will be missed.”

“He was a true Christian who spoke and wrote with wit and wisdom,” Olsen said. “Many members of the Church loved his unique way of teaching the restored gospel of Jesus Christ at General Conference.”

Olsen said that Church members around the world are calling to extend to President Faust’s family their heartfelt condolences.

President Faust was born 31 July 1920, in Delta, Utah. He participated as a member of the University of Utah track team in 1938 and ran the quarter-mile and mile relay.

His college career was interrupted first to serve as a missionary for the Church in Brazil and later by World War II, during which he served in the U.S. Army Air Force and was discharged as a first lieutenant. In 1948 he graduated from the University of Utah with a bachelor's and Juris Doctor degree. He began the practice of law in Salt Lake City and continued until his appointment as a general authority of the Church in 1972.

He served as a member of the Utah Legislature from 1949 to 1951, as an advisor to the American Bar Journal, and president of the Utah Bar Association in 1962-1963. He received the Distinguished Lawyer Emeritus Award from the Utah Bar Association in 1995. In August of 1997, he received an Honorary Doctors Degree of Christian Service from Brigham Young University. He was honored as a Distinguished Alumni at the University of Utah in 1999, and was awarded the Honorary Order of the Coif at Brigham Young University in 2000. In 2003, he was given the Marion G. Romney Distinguished Service Award by Brigham Young University Law School, and he was awarded an Honorary Doctors of Law degree by the University of Utah. President John F. Kennedy appointed him to the Lawyers’ Committee for Civil Rights in 1962.

In 1998 President Faust received a Brazilian national citizenship award — an honor given to only a select few world leaders — and was awarded honorary citizenship of the city of Sao Paulo.

Married to the former Ruth Wright of Salt Lake City, they are the parents of five children: James H. Faust, Janna R. Coombs, Marcus G. Faust, Lisa A. Smith, and Robert P. Faust. They have 25 grandchildren and 28 great-grandchildren.

EEEEks, another birthday!!

Well today I turned 54!!!!!! I can't believe it. I don't feel like I'm that age, thank goodness. I had a pretty good birthday, Jerri Mabry called and asked me to go to lunch today. We have been friends since high scool. We danced on the Bunny Line (Pom line) together. It seems like just a few years ago. We went to Crackers and had a yummy salad. Thanks Jerri for making my day special. That evening my family came over and we went to Matta's for dinner and then home for Lemon Pie. Yum again....thanks my sweet family for all you do for me. My mom came too. Thanks mom for all you have done for me...especially the pain of child birth!!! I really missed Heather today and her family. It's still hard not having them here by us especially for the special days. I did talk to her couple of times though. Anyway, I had a great birthday. Thanks to everyone that made it special.

36th Anniversary

Ron and I celebrated our 36th wedding anniversary on the 23rd of July. We are going to go see Tim McGraw and Faith Hill on the third to celebrate it. I can't wait. I'm sure the concert will really be good. We did go out to dinner at Outback and had a good steak though. Time goes by so fast. It seems like we were just kids not to long ago...enjoy life while you can because it seems that time is going by faster than it used to.

Sisters Forever! Letting The Good Times Roll Too!

Our Sister Outing this year was at the X Diamond Ranch in between Greer and Eager AZ. I got up early Monday morning and drove to Eileen's in Show low. Linda met us there from Heber and we went on to Connie's in Eager. She fixed us a delicious Chicken Salad for lunch. It was really good...thanks Gertrude! Then headed to the cabin. We got settled in and relaxed. We went to Greer for dinner at Molly Butler's. Steak and then Connie and I split a brownie ice cream dessert!!! Yum, Yum! Ronnie quit drooling. This is one of Ronnie's favorite places to eat up here. He'll ride his four wheeler from Green's Peak just to eat there. Anyway, Tuesday a lady came over and we soaked our feet in all her fancy stuff and smelled real good. Then we went back to Connie's and got on her four wheeler's and went up and around a beautiful mountain that is just a short distance from her house. It was beautiful! We saw two deer that you can see on the pictures. It rained just enough to cool us down and keep the dust away. It was a beautiful afternoon and we had a blast. Afterwards we went and ate in Eager and then went back to the cabin. We watched an El Divo DVD and listened to their beautiful music. (Linda, don't get to excited now.) In the morning we just relaxed and packed up. We went to Greer and ate at the Rendezvous for lunch. Back to drop Connie off and then on to Show Low and then a long drive back to the real world. We had a blast and we are so lucky to have these fun times together as sisters. We are very blessed that we all get along and want to do things together. Thanks Sister's, I had fun and I love you all.

Let The Good Times Roll..

Let The Good Times Roll!!! We sure did! We spent a month in San Diego. We relaxed, ate, slept, ate, read, laid out on the beach, read books, put puzzles together, jogged, ate, and just had a lot of fun! Bailey's mom and dad came up the second week and we went to Sea World with them and Old San Diego. We also toured the USS Midway. Heather came up the last week with Tyson and Ethan. We took a day and took them to Disneyland along with Ronnie, Aleia, Faith and Jaylee. We had so much fun despite the long lines! The boys had fun boogie boarding and so did I. We played with a paddle ball and made sand castles and just had good ole' fun! We went swimming a lot too after the beach. The pool and jacuzzi were refreshing. Brody loved the water. Faith and Tyson swim everywhere and Ethan learned and by the time he left my house the third week he was swimming everywhere too. Heather had a lay over in Phoenix so Shannon, my niece picked the boys up and kept them until we drove into town. Thanks Shannon! Tyson and Ethan had a lot of fun. We celebrated Ethan's birthday on the 2nd of July. He decorated his own cake and we went to the movie and then had a swimming party. It was so fun having the two boys here with us. Then the next week Heath drove the rest of the family down from Utah and they stayed the next week. Heather flew home and then flew back the next weekend to drive them all home. During that week on the 13th I drove to Snowflake for Sherry and McKay's wedding. The reception was in Show Low and I helped Eileen get ready. After the reception I drove the three hours home with Tyson, Ethan, Andrew and Jonah. Ronnie and Aleia had taken them to their cabin on Thursday to stay with them. They had a blast. Oh yeah, Ethan was the Uno Attack champion!! Anyway, we had so much fun together and hope to do it again. Hopefully, they will still get to move back here.

Sherry and McKay's Wedding

Friday the 13th of July Sherry and McKay were married. I drove up early Friday mornng to attend the wedding in the Snowflake Temple. It was beautiful wedding. Sherry was gorgeous! I helped Eileen after the luncheon until Ronnie and Aleia came with Tyson, Ethan, Jonah and Andrew. The boys had a lot of fun with them at the Little Red Cabin. I drove them home that night after the reception because their dad was flying in Saturday morning. Then Heath and I went to the Mac store and bought me a new MacBook. Thanks Heath for all your help getting it loaded with all my old pictures and programs. Heather's family left Sunday afternoon to go back to Utah. I sure will miss them. I had Tyson and Ethan for three whole weeks. We had so much fun together. Then I had all the grandkids for a week and Heather. It will be lonely here without them and quiet! I will miss the hugs and the story time at night. I love them all so much.

FUN DAY!

Ethan, Faith and Tyson had fun trying on hats after the Buzz Light Year Ride. We had sooooo much fun at Disneyland despite the long lines and the heat. Next time though we'll go in the fall or winter. I really enjoyed watching my grandkids eyes and there excitement throughout the day and at the beach. Looking at the world through a child's eyes brings so much joy! We need to stop and enjoy the little things. Here are just a few things I observed...The laughter of Ethan as he catches a wave, Tyson helping some people block the waves from there sand castles, and Faith strutting up the beach...I love watching each and everything thing they do. Even the little babies...Brody and his fun personality and his love for FOOD!!!! Jaylee and her sweet disposition and her hugs. I wish my other grandkids could have been here too. Next year they will all be here.

Christopher and Bailey will come next week because they were so sweet and let an employee have the first week. He had helped them in their business so much this past year they thought this would be nice for his family.

Heather and Heath will be home tomorrow from Haiti. They are in Florida tonight and will get home late tomorrow. I bet their kids are excited to see them ! I talked to Heather for over an hour today when they arrived in Florida. They had a great trip and will be posting a video soon on her blog. First Day of Vacation. Lot's of plans!

First day out of school...Yeah! I got up and exercised, washed clothes, cleaned the pool, and then Ron and I went to a movie. Dumb movie..."Waitress." Slow and definitely not worth the money. Funny here and there and that's about it. Ok for a movie at home when you're really bored.
One week until we go to San Diego for a whole month!!! What are we thinking? I can't wait to get to the beach and relax. Then we have Sherrie's wedding on July 13 and following that is our Sister's Outing for two nights on the 16th and 17th. Then the 23rd is Ron and my 36th Anniversary. Wow...that is a long time! Then, of course I want to see my grandkids in Utah before school starts on the 8th of August. Hopefully I can work it all out. My summer is planned!!!

HAPPY ANNIVERSARY RONNIE AND ALEIA

Seven years has gone by!!! Sometimes slow and sometimes fast. You two have grown so much in those seven years. You have a beautiful family now. Remember the important things in life and you will always have happiness. We love you and Happy Anniversary!

Little story about Thursday!!! I picked up my Aunt Lurlene at the airport after work. We stopped and rented a bed for her for the next two weeks while she stays with Mommo. I took her to mom's where Eileen left Jason's car there for them to use. They were hungry and decided to go get something to eat. I wasn't going to go because I had my visiting teachers coming at 5:30 and then I was going to go to a friends daughter's piano recital at the college. Anyway, something told me to keep an eye on them. So I followed them onto Broadway...punt, punt, punt, about 5-10 miles an hour they go. (oh, by the way Jason car is a stick shift) They pulled over and I turned on the side street and watched them. They started going again and turned left on Power Road going towards the mall. They were going about 15-20 mile and hour now. Then they pulled over to a left hand turn and I went ahead and made a u-turn. I turned on the road they would be turning on. They had no idea I was following them. They didn't turn and didn't turn even when the traffic was all clear several times. So I got out of my car and asked them what was wrong. The car wouldn't start. I went across Power and got Aunt Lurlene in the back seat and drove it to my car. (It started right up) I don't think she had the clutch all the way to the floor. So, I had Aunt Lurlene drive my car back to mom's and I took them to dinner. We went to country Buffet. When we got inside Aunt Lurlene was having a sugar low so we had to pass all the people and get her somewhere to sit down and get her a drink. It took her about 30 minutes and then she ate her dinner. I took them back to mom's and we were laughing as they tried to get their behinds out of the car. I told them I wished I had a movie of them. I helped Aunt Lurlene unpack and got home around 8:30. Long day, but I'm glad I was there to help them. Today they went to Walmart and McDonald's and didn't have any problems. We'll all be there someday!

LOVE THURSDAY

Jonah Michael McDonald is my Love Thursday. He turned 5 years old on the 15th of May. He is such a sweetheart that I love so much. I remember the day he was born. He scared us to death when the nurses pushed the code red button after the delivery. But he was OK, thank heavens, and we had another wonderful grandson. He has brought so much joy and happiness in our life. We miss having him near us to hold and give kisses to. We love you Jonah!!!!

This was hilarious! Jaylee was chewing on a cup and Brody took it away! She was brokenhearted. The solution...they all got their own cups!

Happy Mother's Day

I sure hope you all had a great Mother's Day. We did! We (Ronnie Aleia, Faith, Jaylee, Christopher, Bailey, Brody, Grandma Etta, Ron and I)had dinner at my house of yummy ham, funeral potatoes, fruit salad, rolls, corn, and green beans. Connie, Homer, Josh, Meagan and Brooklyn came over for dessert and we had cheese cake and strawberry shortcake. Of course we had a taste of both. Meagan made the cheescake. Yum!!! I had some funny pictures to put on but everytime I,ve tried I just get letters and numbers when I download the pictures. Anyone know why???
Later that evening I took a plate to Mommo. She had an upset stomach earlier and didn't come.

I've Been Tagged!

1. I'm talking to Heather on the phone so she is giving me some ideas to help me....The first one is that I crunch on ice whenever I can. (as I am now!)

2. I can make up some pretty weird childrens nighttime stories!!! I make them up as I go and act them out at times.

3. I got on the yearbook committee my senior year and then I joined a lot of the clubs so I could have my picture in the yearbook a lot. (How vain!)

4. I had a burglar come in to my house before I had kids. Ron slept through most of it while I was under the bed calling the cops!! (to long for the blog, so ask me sometime about it)

5. I like to water ski and snow ski like Connie. I'm definitely not very good and its been years.

6. My talent??? I like crocheting as most of you know. I've made 3 blessing dresses so far and lots of afghans and baby blankets.

7. I've worked in the Young Women the past four years and for many more since 1971. To many to count. I've had many callings that I thought....ME??? But with Heavenly Father's help you can do a lot more than you ever think!!! I've learned and grown during those years, so don't ever underestimate yourself. Heavenly Father is always there to help you get through all things.

The only ones I see that hasn't been blogged is Ashleigh and Allison. So, you two have been tagged.

Busy Weekend

Wow! What a busy weekend. Connie came down and we went to a movie Thursday night. We saw "Disturbia". It was a scary movie! (Connie said it was the scariest she has ever seen). It was good though and it sure kept your attention. Then Friday night we took her car in to get fixed. Katie came over and when Brendon came for their kids we went and saw "Lucky You" with Drew Barrymore. It was a pretty good movie too. We came home and had an ice cream and visited for awhile. Then Saturday morning Connie and I took mom to I Hop for breakfast. After that we went to the mall and shopped until her car was done. I came home after a stop at Sam's Club and cleaned the pool, vacuumed, and washed clothes. Ron has been hunting since Thursday with Ronnie and Christopher and Aaron. Luckily, Ronnie is OK after flipping his four wheeler and Ron is OK after falling on his knee. I'm so thankful that they weren't hurt. We are very blessed.

LOVE THURSDAY (a little late, but here it is)

Tyson is my Love Thursday!!!! He turned 10 years old on May 4. He has always been a sweetie! I remember when we first started having him over and how much he needed to be loved. One look in his big brown eyes and you automatically fell in love with this awesome boy. We are so lucky to have him in our family. He has brought so much joy and laughter in our hearts. Heavenly Father has blessed us more than we ever expected. Tyson, Grandma and Grandpa love you so much and are so glad that you are our grandson! My, how you have changed!!! (Hee-Hee, six eyes???)
